MCA Foundation Announces Appointment of New CEO

The Medical Center of the Americas (MCA) Foundation’s Board of Directors announced that Carlos Ortega has been appointed the new CEO of the non-profit organization. An experienced business leader, Ortega will succeed Emma W. Schwartz and assume responsibilities on 01 September 2022.

Ortega has served as Chief Financial Officer for the MCA Foundation for the past 10 years. Ortega continues to be responsible for the management of the Economic Development Impact Fund earmarked to the MCA Foundation by the City of El Paso. Ortega is responsible for helping guide the MCA organization as it grows and expands its mission to serve El Paso.

“Carlos has lived the MCA mission for the past decade and knows the organization inside and out,” said Rick Francis, MCA Foundation board chair. “He is highly respected within the community and will execute the MCA strategy effectively. The board of the MCA is excited to guide the MCA forward under his leadership.”

Ortega brings more than 35 years of financial and operational executive experience with local, national, and international organizations during his career. He currently serves on various private company boards.

“I thank the MCA Board for their trust and confidence in choosing me to lead the MCA organization,” said Carlos Ortega. “I look forward to working closely with the Board to move the MCA forward in its mission and its challenges as well as to maintain its momentum and record of accomplishments. I thank Emma Schwartz for allowing me to be part of her team and its significant achievements over the past 10 years.”

Ortega is a certified public accountant and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, and its El Paso Chapter. He holds a BBA in accounting from the University of Notre Dame.
