The MCA Startup Development program supports the development of technology-based startup companies.

The Startup Development Program is a [9] month program designed to help existing Startups improve the viability of their product and market strategy.

Startups in the program will receive access to MCA resources including:

  • the MCA Resource Network, including service providers and corporate partners
  • MCA Mentors
  • MCA Startup curriculum consisting of presentations by serial entrepreneurs, industry experts, and seasoned executives from across the country
  • direct advising from MCA Innovation Staff
  • MCA Innovation Center events, such as hackathons, industry events, and networking events.
  • MCA facilities, including coworking office space, product development and manufacturing space, and lab space.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for Startups in the early stages of the company’s life-cycle that are ready to accelerate their growth and development. Startups must have an existing product and a market thesis, including strategies for generating revenue. At least one founder of the Startup must be committed to the Startup full-time. The Startup team must have the ability to make progress on their product and market development during the program period. Preference will be granted to Startups working in health, medical, and biotechnology applications, however, strong applicants not working within those industries will be considered.

What do we expect?

The Startup Development program is an intensive 9-month program. Startups participating in the program will be expected to comply with several obligations to remain in the program:

  • Startups must attend mandatory events, including one 2-hour education session or community session every week.
  • Startups will work alongside MCA Innovation Center Staff to create a progress plan for their Startup. Companies that do not make sufficient progress on their progress plan will not be allowed to remain in the program. We understand that new ventures can be hard to predict, so we will work with startups to re-evaluate their plans on a continual basis.

By the end of the program, Startups will be expected to pitch to venture capital investors and to participate in the MCA’s Demo Day.

Startups successfully completing the Startup Development program will be considered for the Startup Support program, which includes additional access to resources and potential funding.
